March 4, 2007 Dear Pleo Enthusiasts, Thanks everyone for taking the time to send in these wonderful essays. I was personally moved by many of them and feel that you understand and share UGOBE's vision. A lot of you wrote about Pleo as a companion and a pet alternative. We agree. Our main goal has always been to have Pleo accepted as a member of the family. Many of you pointed out the opportunity for Pleo to make a difference in the lives of the elderly, disabled and hospitalized children, which would give everyone at UGOBE tremendous satisfaction and personally would exceed all my expectations. Other people suggested life forms which will have a blend of utility and companionship, seamlessly integrating and adding value into your lifestyle. Here at UGOBE we have many of the same thoughts about the eventual transition from companion to helper, but hearing them echoed by people who are truly passionate about the real potential of robotic lifeforms, puts a spring in our step every day we go to work on Pleo. Thank you. Each day we make great progress toward bringing Pleo to life. Above is a photo from the lab I thought you might enjoy. As you can see, we have a veritable herd of Pleos — each is an iterative step in the development and release of the final product. The little name tags they have identify the revision number of that Pleo as we move closer to the start of production. We will announce and post the contest winners on our web site on Monday, April 9th. We'll continue to post sneak peeks of Pleo's evolution so you can share in the progress. Stay tuned here for more — and thanks from all of us at UGOBE! Regards, Caleb |
